CUBIX – “DEFINE YOUR CLOUD PIPELINE”

It is now become more possible than ever to deploy video / audio / image processing workflows that are entirely cloud based – with content never needing to enter a facility. This is thanks to the wide range of online services now available, mostly based on public cloud, for transcoding, standards conversion, storage, editing, grading and delivery. Trick is, how to get them all to work together in a seamless fashion..? How to maintain a full audit trail and tight security? Not only that, what happens when your requirements change or new requirements appear, how to re-integrate?

Ortana Media Groups Cubix Platform has always been at the forefront of integrating best of breed solutions into its Orchestration and Asset Management layers – and today this includes a wide range of key cloud services and partners. Thanks to Cubix’ ability to be deployed within public cloud, and using our easy to use Taskflow Designer, clients can integrate and build in minutes end to end workflows that run natively in the cloud. The drive to adopt remote or Cloud Based workflows for media is now in full swing and many of our clients are migrating their media and metadata based workflows to a Cloud environment, the benefits are now easy to see in terms efficiency, flexibility and now also commercially. Through intelligent deployment of cloud storage and our own file acceleration technology, Cubix also helps overcome the perceived speed issues that can be associated using cloud storage.

Many clients are making this move, but in some cases a hybrid cloud environment is what is required as elements of the workflow are still required to be on on-premise or private cloud – either as the content is being originated there, or the equipment is not best suited to being migrated to the cloud.

Cubix has always been and always will be a true hybrid cloud platform, thanks to its native support for Microsoft Azure SQL and Amazon RDS - as well as its ability to run “remote harnesses” - modules of the Cubix automation layer that allow for the remote control of devices. It also strongly supports different tiers of both on-premise and cloud storage - where orchestrated rules can be applied on a per client basis within a single instance.

This simple, modular approach to device control and tiering of storage and resource across both on-premise and cloud allows clients to maximise the best of both worlds, leveraging the benefits of cloud, whilst making use of any on premise capacity – helping keep costs to a minimum. Taskflows within Cubix allow for rate cards to be embedded - where automatic quotes can be produced for approval ahead of a project taking place - detailing the costs that will be incurred. Cubix also ensures content is always encrypted, regardless where at rest or in transit – and every step of the process, whether it be automated or manual is logged – providing a full audit trail. This security can be further enhanced with our biometrics integration – as well as other 2FA methods.

Cubix is also offers an excellent method for clients to transition from on premise to cloud. A Cubix platform can start life entirely on-premise, and then be migrated module / device at a time to a public cloud or cloud resource of your choice - given that Cubix is entirely cloud agnostic. Cubix systems can even run across multiple public clouds allowing for media, metadata and services to be load balanced / backed up in real-time, as well as providing numerous models for “scale on demand”.

---------

At IBC 2017, Ortana will be demonstrating how using Cubix and its wide range of integrations you can quickly design, implement and launch true cloud and hybrid workflows quickly and securely. Below are some of the example use cases that we will be demonstrating;

Film Ingest and Archive

Working with the film scanner manufacturer FilmFabriek, Cubix can ingest film scans and run a variety of workflows including back up / archive to Cloud Archive storage and the generation of proxies for client portal review and tagging as well as Cloud based transcoding and delivery.

Bulk Tape Ingest

Our service provider partner Spot and Spin utilises Cubix for the bulk ingest of tape, a cloud based Cubix instance controls on-premise Flexicarts and Encoders to digitise and encode content for delivery via the Cubix UDT to clients on-premise or Cloud based storage.

Social Media Ingest, Cloud Transcoding and Packaging

With our client UFFA, they have a cloud based instance of Cubix under a shared SaaS account that ingests media from remote sites via an APP and You Tube, Cubix transcodes in the cloud and delivers to multiple VoD locations.

Also on offer is UGC ingest direct from social media and online video platforms – which feed straight into any workflow - editorial ingest, brand management, archive, MoJo and more.

Cognitive Services

Come see how cognitive services and machine learning can help optimise your current workflows through simple to deploy solutions with Cubix. Content indexing and discovery, transcription and language detection - Down to earth, no hype!

Editorial Ingest

Editorial ingest - a fully automate process of media wrangling, transcoding to offline, LUT management, avid metadata insertion for AMA relinking, indexing and AAF generation. Includes full support for all camera types including RED and ARRI, as well as many offline codecs such as JFIF / Meridien compressed and DNxHR. Best of all can be managed and controlled from public cloud, with no media leaving your facilities, and can use your existing Avid estate - no need to buy new hardware.

Biometrics

Biometric security as a replacement for traditional sign on - or as 2FA. First MAM to support biometrics

Cubix Taskflow Designer

Build and deploy workflows in minutes that work on premise, in the cloud and between. Simple designer with unique approach puts you in control, significantly reducing deployment times and costs, and allows for workflows to be easily adapted as needed.

---------

In addition to the proven and in-service solutions above we also have the following solutions in Alpha or Beta testing due for launch within 2017.

Kinemaster Mobile Editing / Mobile Journalism (MoJo)

Integration with Kinemaster the mobile journalism (MoJo) app has the ability to shoot, edit and add overlays for news clips, A cloud based Cubix has integrated to manage the archive and delivery of this content to specified locations, either to news outlets or to be archived for future use. Cubix also has the ability to transcode the media and deliver the required codecs for broadcast or VoD distribution. Allowing direct integration for content management and publishing / syndication. Shoot, edit, publish and more - direct from the field.

ColorBlack Mobile Colour Grading

At IBC 2017, OMG will be presenting another exciting collaboration that is currently in its development stages. OMG is working with ColorBlack to give its users the ability to colour grade in the Cloud. Users colour grade using an on premise Baselight colour correction system on to a low-resolution file, which is then pushed to the cloud with the associated colour correction metadata or LUT’s. This then enables the Colourist to grade the proxy from the cloud and when complete, the scene gets processed through the Base light render nodes within the cloud – using the original hi-res file.

CinnaFilm PixelStrings

Ortana is now in partnership to support cloud based video conversion and optimisation tools ‘PixelStrings’ by Cinnafilm. Keep an eye out for more to read up on soon as this collaboration progresses further in the near future.
